Block has launched the Fremantle Dockers Football Club 2012 campaign by telling punters “No One’s Stronger”.

Over the last six months, Block has produced more than 100 brand elements for the Fremantle Dockers – including a 30-second TV commercial, print, radio, web skins, match-day collateral, corporate sponsorship packs, ticketing, brochures and community promotions.

The campaign builds on the success of the Fremantle Dockers’ rebranding, which was unveiled in October 2010, by integrating the brand visually and strategically across all media channels.

“Consolidating much of our work with Block has meant we can deploy resources where they will make the largest difference. This means that we are spending time on creating design solutions that work and only need to be ‘re-skinned’ rather than reinvented, year-to-year. There is still plenty of work to be done to bring the brand to where we ultimately want it, but this approach has provided us with the framework to achieve our goals,” says Scott Gooch, general manager of commercial partners at Fremantle Dockers Football Club.

Since the Fremantle Football Club first appointed Block two years ago, we have worked together to create one of the most visually consistent, striking brands in the Australian Football League.

Producing so many campaign elements to kick off this year’s Fremantle Dockers season was no easy feat, but it does demonstrate how far the brand has evolved over the last couple of years.

It is now an integrated brand with a tagline that taps into the passion of the Fremantle Dockers’ supporters and encourages them to actively engage in the strength of the club.

Block has been appointed to Tourism WA’s roster of design agencies, selected on the strength of its creative and strategic offering.

Block is experienced in working with government and cultural agencies including MRA (Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority), Perth International Arts Festival and State Theatre Centre.

The agency will now work with Tourism WA to provide a diverse suite of graphic design services including press, publications, digital, printed material, multimedia and out-of-home.

Tanya Sim, Managing Director at Block, says: “Block was recently appointed as Leighton Properties’ branding and creative agency, and joined The Department of Human Services’ roster of agencies in November last year, so joining WA Tourism’s design roster tops off a great six months for Block.”

Tourism WA is the State Government agency responsible for promoting Western Australia as an extraordinary holiday destination. It focuses on marketing the State; developing, attracting and promoting major sporting, cultural and business events; and developing significant tourism infrastructure and projects.

Leighton Properties has appointed Block as its branding, public relations and creative agency in Western Australia.

Leighton Properties has appointed Block as its branding, public relations and creative agency in Western Australia. The company is one of Australia’s leading property developers with a development pipeline of over $5 billion.

Block is now working with Leighton Properties to promote Kings Square, one of the largest urban renewal projects currently underway in Australia.

“Block is creating a marketing strategy for Kings Square that redefines the way business is conducted in Perth. We are positioning Kings Square as a hub for younger employees who demand more flexible, campus-style work environments,” says Mark Braddock, Creative Director at Block.

“Strategically, our campaign will target a contemporary-age workforce that works, plays and rests very differently to other generational counterparts,” says Braddock.

Carolyn Hall, Business Strategy Director at Block, says: “This represents a major opportunity for Block. Over the past seven years we have honed our expertise in the property branding sector, and continue to attract clients that are redefining Perth as we know it.”

Block’s property clients have included boutique developers Match, MRA (formerly the East Perth Redevelopment Authority), and Encorp Development, a subsidiary of Encorp Berhad Malaysia.

Kings Square is part of the West Australian government’s $3 billion Perth City Link redevelopment.

The site is being developed in partnership with Seven Group Holdings and transforms the iconic Perth Entertainment Centre, which has been associated with Seven Network since its construction in 1974, into a vibrant 2.5 hectare commercial and retail redevelopment.

Block is now devising an integrated marketing campaign to promote Stage 1 of Kings Square, the King’s Link building, an 11-storey commercial building.

Michael Barr, senior development manager at Leighton, describes the King’s Link building as a “game changer” for the corporate world in Perth’s CBD.

“Block understands the value of branding within the property space and the complexity of appealing to different tenants, which made it the obvious choice as our Perth agency,” says Barr.

We’re happy to announce the arrival of two new creatives to the happy house of Block.

Nathan Teoh has been freelancing at Block over the last couple of months and we can now officially welcome him aboard as a senior creative since he has agreed to sign his soul over to us permanently. But Nathan isn’t new to us, in fact he helped us build our very first website back in 2002 when he was a young whippersnapper. Since then he spent years living in Europe and working on Playstation’s design team. Most recently he was an art director at Marketforce in Perth.

Maegan Brown joins us straight out of university, having distinguished herself as the top graduate from Curtin University’s School of Design. She has the distinction of receiving 100% for one of her final year projects, something that no one can recall happening previously. She is a superstar in the making and we are proud to welcome her as a junior creative.

In their last issue for 2011, Australian Creative Magazine asked our Creative Director, Mark Braddock, for his creative predictions for the year ahead. This is what he had to say:

“This week I had a client ask me to visualise a logo for them that wouldn’t be used until 2044, so seeing just one year into the future shouldn’t be a problem for someone with such recognised predictive skills. But I have to admit, I have no idea what will ’trend’ this coming year; instead let me present a list of things that I hope, rather than predict, will come to pass:

Flying cars – always top of any future wish list.

Social Media just becomes a normalised channel and the Snake Oil salespeople of the marcoms industry move on to whatever is next.

Creatives start caring more about being smart and less about being cool. Let’s get back to basics.

Out: Herb Lubalin. In: Jeffery Keedy (early 90s is the new 70s).”
