State Library of Western Australia
\ Challenge
The State Library of Western Australia is more than a book lender. It is the custodian of our state’s history, a collector and curator of stories, a vibrant community hub, a source of creative inspiration, a conduit to the collective knowledge of the world, and a champion of literacy in all its forms. Serving WA from the iconic CBD building, local libraries across the state, and – increasingly – online platforms, the State Library seeks to expand the knowledge of every Western Australian by empowering access to learning, creativity, and our shared history.
In 2023, at the advent of a new leadership team, the time was right to reinvigorate the identity of this important public institution for a new century.
\ Outcome
Every person who engages with the State Library shares a common trait: a sense of curiosity. They arrive for one thing – a exhibition, a program, a book, a table to collaborate and brainstorm on an assignment – and find endless opportunities for exploration. Here, one thing always leads to another.
Our brand identity takes inspiration from these individual journeys of discovery, visually illustrating how one question, one thought, one spark can set in motion a lifelong love of learning. Structured but with space to move, the system poses a simple question: where will the State Library take you?
